Om Bhur Bhuvaḥ Swaḥ
Tat-savitur Vareñyaṃ
Bhargo Devasya Dhīmahi
Dhiyo Yonaḥ Prachodayāt
The above Gayathri
manthra is a sacred chant this is for the unity which underlines manifoldness
in the creation. In general the meaning of this sacred chanting is asking the
God to give me knowledge from all I come across in the day to the God Vishnu
and Sun. This chanting is very easy words and anyone can take these words in
their mind and remember forever and at any age. In many cases, people do this
changing all the twenty four hours a day. Gayathri is representing the Veda of
Hindus. In general all the Hindus are chanting this sacred manthra every day.
Veda is the prime script
for the Hindus and three names for this Veda is existing Gayathri, Saraswathi,
and Savithiri. In general, why this manthra is taught to all the Hindus is a
question. Asking god for the needs are common, at the same time, asking the
knowledge is different approach to the god or goddess, when knowledge is
obtained by a person, he could get whatever he needs in his regular life. But
in general Hindu attitude, once any Hindu who is visiting the Ganesh temple, he
would hit on his head for two times or more, this is asking the Ganesh to
provide enough knowledge. However, knowledge is the base for everything to had
in the life. Once knowledge is gained a person can get all his needs. This is
the reason this sacred Gayathri manthra is taught when a child is seven years
old, of course only male child should have to learn this manthra, so that he
could protect his sisters and mother in general, all the girl children also
aware of this manthra and these children also chanting this manthra.
